Regionals Week

16 Feb by Dan Gashaw

Hellos Morton Wrestling Family -

I can’t believe that it is already time for the postseason. This week we will be preparing for the IESA Regional Tournament that we will be hosting at Morton Jr High School on Saturday, February 22nd. Here is some information to help with the week ahead.

1) Practice Tomorrow – Practice tomorrow will be from 9:00-10:45 am at MJHS. Please get there early enough to help set up the practice mat.

2) Practice Expectations for the Week – All wrestlers are still expected to be at practice for this week. Once the Regional Tournament is done, and if you did not advance to the Sectional Tournament, then your season can be done. But if you still want to come to practice to keep getting better, you are always welcome.

3) Regional Tournament – Hosting the Regional Tournament is quite an undertaking and we will need all the help that we can get. Even if you are not wrestling, we will need your help on Saturday. So again, the expectation is that all MJHS Wrestlers will be attending the Regional Tournament.
The IESA Regional Tournament will consist of 6 teams (MJHS, Bloomington Jr High, Evans, Washington, Galesburg, and Quincy). At most, you will compete in a 12 man bracket (I will not know what the brackets look like until after the seeding meeting on Thursday). The Regional Tournament will use a Follow-the-Leader format. What the means is that if you lose in the first 2 rounds, the wrestler that beats you has to make the finals in order for you to compete in the wrestle back rounds. The top 3 finishers in each weight class will move on to the Sectional Tournament that will be held on Saturday, March 1 in Jacksonville.

4) Regional Apparel – The Cubby Hole will be selling regional apparel at the tournament. However, if you would like to avoid the lines and wait, you can pre-order your gear. This is 100% optional, and completely up to you. If you would like to pre-order, the link is http://www.cubbyholeonline.com/

I believe that is all the basic information for the week. If I have forgotten anything, I will send it out later. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

KEEP ON!
